The new version of the Mono Framework has now been released. Mono 2.8 supports many features of the new .NET 4.0 Frameworks.

Mono-Framework
Mono is the open source alternative to Microsoft .NET framework. It supports programming languages such as C #, JavaScript, Python, and Ruby, and runs on different operating systems. These include Windows and Mac OS X, openSUSE, Solaris, Ubuntu, and many other operating systems.
The new Mono 2.8
The new Mono 2.8 includes many new features such as the C # 4.0 support. But ASP .NET 4.0. as well as the ASP.NET MVC 2 will now be supported. There are also many other features such as the new thread pool behavior that the .NET 4 or equivalent to the Managed Extensibility Framework, which aims to facilitate the extensibility of applications.
But also a new garbage collector is available in Mono 2.8. However, this does not seem to be working properly to Hunderprozent. So the code is referred to as "experimental" and should not be used in any project. Therefore, by default, still the old Hans Boehm's conservative garbage collector used, and the new will be incorporated by additional option settings.

Be careful with 2.8
Although the new features make pleasure to the new mono, so should exercise caution but software developers. Because the Mono developers advise programmers who focus on stability, but prefer to use the old version 2.6.
Thus, the current version is not supported in the longer term, so that although the version 2.6 "Long-Term Support" enjoys, but then again only the 3.0 version.
